Emphysema and COPD Awareness

EFA conducts education campaigns to increase awareness about emphysema and COPD, and to encourage those who may have symptoms to get tested.

COPD Conference

Now in its 10th year, the annual COPD Conference brings together physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists and allied health care providers from health systems, hospitals, and community health clinics to educate and inform them about the research on diagnostic and treatment options for COPD patients.

Adult lung health

Individuals diagnosed with COPD often need support from not only health professionals, but also peers and others diagnosed with COPD. EFA sponsors educational workshops designed to encourage COPD-diagnosed individuals and their families/caregivers to share challenges and discover new ways to have a better quality of life living with the disease. This is a patient-centered approach to managing COPD.

Smoking Cessation

Smoking is a leading factor in the development of emphysema and COPD. EFA seeks to educate smokers about the need to quit and the ways in which they can do so.

Research into chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and emphysema can increase understanding of the causes and lead to improved treatments for these diseases. Through research, we can provide ways to extend the life and improve the quality of life for those suffering with COPD and emphysema.

Over the past 40 years, the organization has funded peer-reviewed research on emphysema and COPD.
